Virtual Classroom

Overview

The Fathom virtual classroom provides teachers and students with a quick and convenient way to see classes, teacher notes, assignments, and a curated list of books that is set by the teacher of each classroom.

To access your virtual classroom, first you must be signed into either a teacher or student account. Hover over your account name which can be found in the top right of the page, then select "Virtual Classroom."

Virtual Classroom for Students

Classes

Students will see the "Your Classes" page when the Fathom Virtual Classroom is selected. From here students will get a list of all classes they are enrolled in. To open a class, select it from the “Your Classes” page.

From a class page, navigation buttons can be found in the top right that will take you to the library, Fathom dashboard, or Fathom Chat.

Chalkboard

The chalkboard can be found on the top left of the screen and displays the class name and any teacher notes that have been entered.

Reading Assignments

Directly below the chalkboard is the reading assignments section. Here, students can see the books that they are expected to read Including specific pages and the date and time that the assignment is due.

Tasks

Any non-reading assignments, such as writing a summary of a past reading will be displayed in the "Tasks" section.

Recording Assignments

The "Recording Assignments" section outlines assignments which require students to use the record function of the Fathom Reader to record themselves reading a specific book. This section will outline assignment specifics and provide a link to the book the student should read. The due date is displayed below each recording assignment.

Bookshelf

The center of the screen is home to the bookshelf section. Here students can see a list of books that have been hand picked by their teachers! These could be books that are related to reading assignments or books that the teacher just wants students to explore further.

Virtual Classroom for Teachers

Classes

When a teacher opens the Fathom Virtual Classroom, they will first see a list of all classrooms they have created. From here you can select the classroom you would like to use.

From a class page navigation buttons can be found in the top right that will take you to the library, Fathom dashboard, or Fathom Chat.

Chalkboard

The chalkboard can be used to post announcements for your students. By clicking the chalkboard you can edit the class display name and class note.

Assignments

Directly below the chalkboard you will see buttons that allow you to add books to the book shelf and add assignments.
When adding an assignment you can assign it to a class or to an individual student.

Assignment and task progress can be tracked on the right side of the reading assignment, task, and recording assignment panels. When assignments are complete, a green checkmark will be displayed. If an assignment is in progress, a percentage will be shown.
If an assignment was made and no student was assigned to it, a red ! will be shown to alert the teacher.

To edit an assinment, hover over the assignment. You will see three buttons appear to the right of the assignment. The first option allows you to edit who is assigned to the assignemnt. The second allows you to edit the assignment itself and the third option allows you to delete the assignment.

Adding Books

You can add books to your virtual classroom by using the "Select Books for Bookshelf" button located on the left side of your virtual classroom. This will bring up the add books modal.
